Hiking boots for the Camion

One of the biggest concerns people have about going on long hikes is their hiking boots. You easily get injured and get blisters when you hike long distances, and especially in the wrong hiking boots. We've given countless tips on how to find the right hiking boots for the Camino, but the truth is always that you know, or should know, best.

All feet are different. Very different. So when a shoe retailer says these hiking boots are great on Camino, you may very well end up having the exact opposite experience.

You quickly get rid of a lot of money if you buy hiking boots blindly. There are a lot of cool brands, but the price is also often lower. As I said, we have given a lot of advice when it comes to footwear on the Camino, but it is often very different advice.

Here's our best advice for hiking boots on the Camino

  1. Choose your hiking boots according to the season
  2. Make sure they don't weigh too much
  3. Walk a long way in them before you leave
  4. Find some that sit in the back of yours backpack

The advice you can give for hiking boots is many. It is often hot when you hike long distances, but many outdoor stores try to sell warm hiking boots with warm socks. If you get hot feet easily, you may have to avoid hiking boots on the Camino altogether. The terrain is of course variable, and many therefore recommend boots so that you don't wiggle around so easily.

We have both tried walking the Camino in everything from running shoes, barefoot shoes, five fingers and sandals. It's actually our preferred footwear on the Camino. The best advice we can give is to bring a change of shoes. In addition, some flip-flops for when you arrive at hostels etc. where your feet need a lot of rest.

We could talk a lot more about the perfect shoes and hiking boots, and we may write this guide longer at another time. We have followed many forums and Facebook groups, where it quickly becomes a heated debate about which hiking boots to choose. This is again due to the fact that people have completely different feet and attitudes.

Recommendations for finding the best hiking boots

When it comes to finding the best hiking boots, there are several factors you should consider. Here are some recommendations:

1. Terrain and type of hike

Think about the terrain and the type of hiking you will primarily be participating in. If you often hike on uneven terrain or in mountainous areas, choose hiking boots with a stiffer sole and good ankle support. If you primarily hike on flatter trails, lightweight hiking boots may be more appropriate.

2. Materials and durability

Look for hiking boots that are made of durable and waterproof materials such as leather or high-quality synthetic materials. These materials ensure that your feet stay dry and protected in wet conditions and also give the boots a longer lifespan.

3. Shock absorption and comfort

Hiking involves a lot of impact and impact on the feet, so it is important to choose hiking boots with good shock absorption and comfort. Look for boots with cushioned midsoles that absorb shock and provide a comfortable walking experience. The insole and heel pad should also be comfortable and supportive.

4. Traction and grip of the sole

Good hiking boots must have a solid and grippy sole that gives you traction on different surfaces. Make sure the sole has a good pattern and is designed to handle both wet and dry conditions. A good sole will prevent slipping and increase your stability while walking.

5. Ankle support

Ankle support is essential for hiking boots, especially if you are hiking on rough terrain. Choose boots that reach at least above the ankle to provide extra support and reduce the risk of sprains and injuries.

6. Water tightness

If you plan to hike in wet or muddy conditions, it's important to choose hiking boots that are waterproof or water-resistant. These boots keep your feet dry and protected from moisture and the elements.

7. Fit and personal preference

Finally, it is important to choose hiking boots that suit your foot shape and give you the right fit. The fit can vary between different brands and models, so always try the boots on before you buy them. If possible, visit a specialty store where you can get professional guidance and try on several different models to find the best fit for you.

Remember that the best hiking boots will be the ones that best suit your individual needs and preferences. Be aware that finding the right pair can take time, so be patient and choose carefully.

With these recommendations and the size guide, you are well equipped to find the best hiking boots for your hiking adventures. Always remember to take the time to try different models, get advice from experts and listen to your body's signals when you find the perfect pair. Don't forget to take care of your hiking boots by cleaning and maintaining them regularly to extend their life. Now is the time to go out and explore nature with comfort and confidence on your feet!
